Hearts Open WidePam Wellish & Susan Root
“Women of all ages will find these birth accounts moving and fascinating. The midwives are the models of courage and skill. ~Elizabeth Davis author of Heart and Hands: A Midwife’s Guide
Becka is one of seven amazing midwives interviewed for this book. She and the other midwifes tell remarkable stories about birthing and the call to midwifery.
“…Only in this book can you read about women giving birth NATURALLY, some in mountain homes with no electricity, running water or flushing toilets, simply so their babies could have a decent birth out side of the controlling hospital setting. Only in this book can you hear stories such as the one of a woman delivering her baby in her V.W. bug…how awesome. True age-old midwifery is shown in this book and is a must read to see all aspects of giving birth.” Amazon Books
Birth Herbs
Becka Sheranian
This is a project I did about 10 years ago. It is a educational CD on Birth Herbs. It is a practical electronic guide to using herbs in pregnancy and birth. Maternidad La Luz in El Paso and several other midwifery schools use this in the library for their students.
The No-Cry Sleep Solution
Elizabeth Pantley
Elizabeth is a parenting educator and president of Better Beginnings, Inc., a family resource and education company. Her series of No Cry Books are filled with practical and loving advice. On her new website you will find lots of parenting information, videos, contests, and Q&As, plus a PDF set of reproducible parent education newsletters – on topics including sleep, potty training, and tantrums – they are ready for you to download.
Heart and Hands: A Midwife’s Guide to Pregnancy and Birth
Elizabeth Davis
The Safe Motherhood Quilt Project is a non-profit organization dedicated to honoring those who have died of pregnancy-related causes during the past twenty years.
The quilt is made up of individually designed squares; each one devoted to a woman in the U.S. who has died of pregnancy-related causes since 1982. One quilt square is designed and dedicated to each mother’s memory. The Safe Motherhood Quilt is the voice for women who can no longer speak for themselves.
Water Birth A Midwife’s Perspective
Susanna Napierala
As women increasingly seek more humanistic birthing methods than the hospital-based delivery, certified midwife Susanna Napierala (Northbay Midwifery) suggests that water birth offers mother and infant the ideal circumstances for beginning their lives together. Warm water, explains the author, reduces the hours and stress of labor, offers bodily support and relaxes blood flow, helping to ease the baby’s journey.
The Birth Book and Spiritual Midwifery
Raven Lang and Ina May Gaskin
These two book are pioneer midwifery training books. Countless midwives of the 1970’s and 80’s utilized these book and today they are just as vital as ever! The Birth Book by Raven Lang and Spiritual Midwifery by Ina May Gaskin. Must reads to the new student.
Artemis Speaks: V.B.A.C. Stories & Natural Childbirth Information
Nan Koehler
This is another must read book. Great stories and wonderful down to earth info. Written by Nan Koehler, a teacher of midwifery, herbalism, spirituality, and much more. A champion of natural living and being in balance with nature which provides harmony and abundance in our lives.
